Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Schefter reminded readers that in 2005, after Charlie Weis left New England for the head coaching job at Notre Dame, the Patriots did not hire another OC to fill his position. Instead, Belichick devoted plenty of time to the job and worked in conjunction with his QB coach, McDaniels. A similar scenario is now playing out with Belichick expected to bring O'Brien along over time. As Schefter suggested, it's a tremendous responsibility for a 39-year-old assistant coach that joined the Patriots staff in 2007 after 14 seasons of coaching college football.
