The Facts:
Responding to concerns voiced by a fan who suggested the Bears don't hold Forte in sufficient regard, Tribune staffer Dan Pompei responded, "I know for a fact the Bears value Forte highly. In fact, they already have tried to sign him to an extension."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Pompei went on to express his belief that once the labor situation is settled, they will make another run at signing him. The only issue is can they find common contractual ground with Forte. Even if they don't sign him this summer, they still will have time to work something out, as his contract does not expire until after the 2011 season. Pompei's feeling is Forte will re-sign with the Bears eventually and be part of the organization for a number of years. ... Meanwhile, Fantasy Football owners will be pleased to learn that Forte is using his unpaid vacation to regain the burst that saw him rush for more than 1,200 yards as a rookie in 2008, and 1,069 last season -- in part by using a technique borrowed from the late Walter Payton:
Running sprints on a steep hill near his house. Forte began the three-times-a-week routine following knee surgery two years ago. "I noticed a difference immediately," Forte told SBNation.com. "I had a better burst and outran defenders."
