The Facts:
Following up on a previous item. ... Portis, appearing Monday at a charity golf tournament, said that reports of a rift between him and coach Jim Zorn are wrong. "How this story came about, I have no idea," Portis said. "There's nothing going on. There's no beef between me and Coach Zorn. We're on good terms at this present moment. There's no problem."

As Times staffer David Elfin notes, Portis had a well-publicized spat with Zorn after the coach benched the slumping running back at halftime of the Dec. 7 loss at Baltimore. But Portis said that flareup was "a long time ago" and he suggested that Profootballtalk.com was needlessly trying make trouble where none exists. PFT's Mike Florio, while standing by his original report, suggested in turn that Portis and the Redskins have reason enough to keep any Portis-Zorn problems from off-season workouts under wraps if, as it appears, the player and the coach are mending fences. As Florio summed up: "It’s possible that Portis now understands that, if Zorn goes after the 2009 season, Portis might not be too far behind him."
