As PFW suggests, this development creates even more uncertainty about whether the wide receiver will play in 2009. With a possible three and a half year sentence still hanging over him, teams have understandably reluctant to pursue him. Even if Burress doesn’t have to serve any prison time as a result of a plea deal, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell could choose to suspend him under the league’s personal-conduct policy. The Jets, Bears and Bucs are on the list of teams waiting to see how the situation plays out but this latest delay can't work in Burress' favor career-wise.
