Attorney: No Reason Plaxico Burress Can't Play In 09
(6/15 8:45 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on an ongoing story. ... The weapons possession case against Burress has been adjourned until September, and his attorney said he didn't see any reason the wide receiver couldn't play this fall. Burress made a brief appearance in court Monday. Judge Felicia Mennin adjourned the case until Sept. 23. Outside court Monday, attorney Benjamin Brafman said several teams were trying to sign his client, and "physically he's in the best shape of his life. He's ready to play." Reported by ESPN.com

While Burress is free to sign with any team, the unresolved legal matter could make teams reluctant to add the talented player. In addition, even if he ultimately does not serve any time in jail on the weapons charge he could face disciplinary action by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell under the league's personal conduct policy. The Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears are interested in Burress. ... Stay tuned.
