OC Scott Linehan met with the media on Tuesday afternoon and confirmed first-round draft pick Pettigrew will be a major component in achieving the Lions' offensive goals. "If you look at the teams that run the ball consistently over the course of 16 games and the playoffs, they've got tight ends that can block, whether they're good receivers or not, that's what you've got to be first," said Linehan.

But Linehan was quick to note that Pettigrew isn't just a blocker. "That's why Pettigrew was such a unique fit and profile for the position, because he's a blocker and a receiver," Linehan said. "To be an every-down tight end in this league you have to have some special physical qualities as well. ... He will be a big factor in our offense whether we're throwing the ball or running." That would certainly be change; nobody would argue that TE has been a position of strength for the Lions in recent years.
