According to a source familiar with the situation, free-agent to be Jacobs is seeking a deal similar to the seven-year, $45 million contract with $16 million guaranteed that Marion Barber got from the Cowboys during the season. So far, the Giants aren't willing to offer that much, even though the preliminary talks have just begun.

Still, Jacobs told Daily News staffer Ralph Vacchiano he's "confident" a deal will be done with New York before he becomes a free agent on Feb. 27, and he said it won't involve the Giants slapping him with the "franchise" or "transition" tags -- which he said would make him "angry" and "probably" cause some problems.
