The Latest: Packers Ready To Make Nice With Brett Favre?
(8/3 1:15 PT)

The Facts:
Packers' president and CEO Mark Murphy just released a statement that read in part: "Sixteen years after Brett Favre came to the Packers, he is returning for a seventeenth season. He has had a great career with our organization and although we built this year around the assumption that Brett meant what he said about retiring, Brett is coming back. We will welcome him back and turn this situation to our advantage." Reported by Packers.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The statement made it clear that Favre's change of mind put the team in a difficult spot. But Murphy added: "We now will revise many actions and assumptions about our long-term future, all predicated on Brett's decision last March to retire. ... That's why this wasn't easy. ..." Meanwhile, NFL Network insider Adam Schefter believes the much-discussed "marketing" deal is no longer in play -- in part because commissioner Roger Goodell was uncomfortable with it. ... So, does this latest development mean Favre now gets to compete with Aaron Rodgers? Schefter believes he will. We're not so sure. One certainty? We haven't heard the last of this story.
