McCarthy Addresses Brett Favre's Return
(8/3 8:44 PT)

The Facts:
HC Mike McCarthy said he hasn't decided what direction his quarterback situation will take. Given Favre's track record of waffling on his football future, McCarthy first wants to talk to Favre on Monday before he makes any decision on opening the job up to competition. "There have been no promises," McCarthy said. "Once again, there has been indecision throughout Brett's path back here to Green Bay. It's important for us to sit down and communicate." Reported by the Associated Press

Meanwhile a source close to Favre told the Green Bay Press Gazette that QB is an excellent physical shape and will be ready to practice on Tuesday afternoon, when the Packers practice next. On Monday, Favre will have to pass his physical and a running test before he can take part in camp. "That will be no problem," the source said of the conditioning test. ... Stay tuned. We'll have an update (or 20) on the situation as the week progresses.
