Goodell Delays Ruling Again As Brett Favre, Packers Talk
(8/1 1:39 PT)

The Facts:
A decision on Favre's request to be reinstated will have to wait for another day. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told media members following a Pro Football Hall of Fame luncheon that he is not reinstating Favre on Friday, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter. Reported by NFL.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
According to Schefter, Productive discussions are continuing to take place and as long as there are, there is no need for the commissioner to act on the reinstatement petition from Favre. ... Meanwhile, HC Mike McCarthy says a potential marketing contract for Favre could benefit the star QB and the team. More importantly, it also could resolve their standoff over Favre's retirement. As noted in a previous item, the marketing deal, worth a reported $20 million over 10 years, might end Favre's bid to return just months after retiring, and presumably would keep him from reporting to Packers training camp when the team is not planning for him to start. Favre is considering the marketing deal, but would prefer to play, reports NFL Network's Steve Mariucci. For what it's worth, McCarthy said the deal, which was interpreted by some as a last-minute bribe to keep Favre away from camp, actually has been on the table for months.
