In addition to RB Rashard Mendenhall, the team's first-round draft choice (see previous item), Sweed, their second-round choice, agreed to a four-year contract. Contract terms for Sweed were not immediately available.

Sweed walks in the door as the obvious candidate to push Nate Washington for the third-receiver role behind starters Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes. Also worth noting: Because the 6-4 Sweed essentially fills a personal request for a bigger receiving threat, Ben Roethlisberger could have an interest in getting him the ball.
