According to NFL Network insider Adam Schefter, as much as Favre wants to play -- and he does -- there are no assurances he will. He still could decide to remain retired. Some around the league still believe this is a likely option.

Favre is expected to make his decision before the week is over, and Schefter believes it could come as early as Thursday. Fortunately for the Packers, they are one of the last teams to open training camp Sunday. They have time to sort through the issue. Meanwhile, Schefter advised readers that the Packers have called more than 20 teams gauging trade interest. Should Favre send the NFL and the Packers a letter asking to be reinstated, Green Bay is going to have to get back on the phone and try to get something done. We're still of the opinion Favre will back down -- but we would welcome resolution even if it bucks that prediction.
