The Facts:
A source said the Cowboys remain committed to the league-wide trend of the two-back system, and envision Marion Barber as their starter. Because of the types of hits he delivers and absorbs, Barber is regarded as a back who needs a partner, likely a high draft pick out of a class that is running-back heavy, particularly juniors.

With Julius Jones becoming a free agent and not expected to return, Barber appears to be locked in as a Week 1 starter for the first time in his pro career. But the Cowboys still will need another back. As noted in a
previous item, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones isn't interested in trading up to acquire Darren McFadden with the presence of talents like Arkansas' Felix Jones or Illinois' Rashard Mendenhall are graded as good values minus the huge cap hit of a top pick. ... Or as Star-Telegram beat man Mac Engel suggested, even if Jones is "Hog-wild about McFadden," rolling with Barber and a lesser light is the less-expensive and more prudent decision.
