According to Times reporter Judy Battista, no deal is imminent, and there is no expectation that an agreement will be announced when the union’s executive director, DeMaurice Smith, and Commissioner Roger Goodell hold separate news conferences this week leading to the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. But when it is finished, the agreement will end one of the last significant sources of discord between the players and the league stemming from the labor negotiations that ended the lockout.
