The Facts:
Depending on whom you believe, Orton either is at the front of the line to be the Broncos’ starting QB or on the trading block. Or maybe both. Although Orton’s name has been tossed about the rumor mills and there is reported interest from at least one team — the Cardinals — NFL Network information man Jason La Canfora isn’t buying into the idea the Broncos are actively shopping the QB. Rather, La Canfora suggests what many of us have been thinking, that Orton is available only for the right price.

“If there’s fair value (offered) for a winning quarterback, a guy who is still relatively young on a contract that is team-friendly, then maybe that makes the decision for the Broncos,” La Canfora said. “But the idea that you can get Orton for a third- or fourth-round pick, I don’t necessarily believe that’s the case. That’s not what I’m hearing. If you start talking about second-round value that moves up, then maybe the Broncos start thinking about it. ... I don’t expect them to shop Orton all over the place. They know their best chance to win in the short-term, and maybe even the long-term, is with Orton. ...” While there is ample reason to view Tim Tebow as the likely starter this fall, nothing is certain at this point (especially with the ongoing lockout further clouding the issues).
