The Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions have joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos in turning down an opportunity to be covered by HBO’s Hard Knocks show.

As PFT's Evan Silva suggested, the Lions made a lot of sense as a Hard Knocks target because they’re a young team on the rise. But HC Jim Schwartz is among the more secretive coaches in the league. The notion of allowing the NFL Films crew that compiles the Hard Knocks footage the kind of access they're used to was almost certainly a factor in the final decision. As previously noted, Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff indicated earlier this week that he might be willing to let his team take part.
