Union Elects To Decertify; Court Battle Coming?
(3/11 2:24 PT)

The Facts:
The NFLPA applied for decertification Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. ET, following an ultimatum issued by NFLPA head DeMaurice Smith issued moments before that deadline that the NFL released ten years worth of audited financial statements.  Reported by FootballDiehards.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
According to a union press release, the NFLPA will move forward as a professional trade association with the mission of supporting the interests and rights of current and former professional football players. ... Why now? As Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio explained, the NFLPA is choosing to decertify today because, under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the union must do so before the CBA expires (that officially happens at midnight tonight). Otherwise, the union must wait six months to do so. ... What does all that mean? The players have given up their rights to collectively bargain but they could individually file antitrust claims against the NFL and the team owners. Expect that to happen in some form (with an outside chance that a settlement is made before it reaches the courtroom). ... Stay tuned. More details as the day progresses.
