The Facts:
It hardly qualifies as news, but it is now official that Sproles will be able to test the market as an unrestricted free agent. The team still hopes to sign him to a long-term deal but will now have competition.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Sproles would have been due $7.3 million had the Chargers tendered him a one-year contract as a restricted free agent. As Union-Tribune staffer Kevin Acee notes, they were not going to pay that for a kick returner and situational RB. ... That doesn't mean the Chargers won't try to re-sign Sproles -- but it ensures plenty of competition for his services. Look for the 49ers to be among those interested.
