The Cardinals agreed to terms on a five-year contract with Wells late Friday night, and the first-round pick should arrive in training camp in time for today’s afternoon practice. Wells was due to take a physical this morning. The Cardinals released tight end Alex Shor to create the roster spot for Wells.

Wells, who played at Ohio State, will compete with Tim Hightower for the starting running back’s position. Both players are expected to play a lot, because HC Ken Whisenhunt prefers to use a two-back system. But coaches hope Wells can give the team a big-play ability that it’s been missing from the position.
