The Facts:
Sometimes a rumor grows to the point that refuting it benefits the public interest. Whether that is the case with today's buzz regarding Vick and a possible union with the Patriots is subject for debate. My feeling is that some clarity would help. This is what I know, and feel strong enough to put my name behind: Vick did not work out for the Patriots today, he is not scheduled to work out for the Patriots in the future, and he is not under consideration to be signed to the team.

So wrote Globe beat man Mike Reiss, as reliable a Patriots reporter as you'll find. Also worth noting (although somewhat less reliable than Reiss), Patriots PR man Stacey James reportedly laughed when told of the rumor. James then denied it. I'll also remind you SI.com's Peter King and ESPN's Adam Schefter (both well-connected insiders) say Vick wasn't in New England today. Miami Herald staffer Jeff Darlington, the man who first reported Vick was in New England, has apologized for misreporting. ... Meanwhile, Reiss addressed Bill Belichick's reluctance to rule Vick out earlier today and suggested the coach was just following his "standard script." Putting a finer point on it, Reiss summed up: "Michael Vick is not coming to New England."
