GM Confirms Staph Was Kellen Winslow's Sole Illness
(10/27 9:59 PT)

The Facts:
GM Phil Savage confirmed Monday that Kellen Winslow was hospitalized nearly three weeks ago soley because of a staph infection, a day after deferring comment about the illness to the tight end. "Once and for all, Kellen's illness was determined to be a staph infection," Savage said. "He's been in the hospital for two or three days and it takes a couple days to figure out what something is. ... There was no secondary illness." Reported by ESPN.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Savage said Sunday that he first learned Saturday of text messages requesting Winslow not discuss a staph infection and that he didn't know why Winslow was first hospitalized -- leaving the issue open to further questioning. Savage closed that door this morning. ... In case you missed it, the text messages were key in a settlement Saturday that resulted in a $25,000 fine for Winslow instead of a one-game suspension without pay. They were sent from a public relations staff member.
