Following up on a previous item. ... Favre faxed his official request for reinstatement, which was received by the league office, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will not act on Favre's request on Tuesday, according to Schefter. Once his reinstatement is approved by the league, which is expected, the Packers have 24 hours to either release Favre or bring him back on the active roster.

According to various reports, the two-day window outlined above will give the Packers some time to figure out their next step. And if the next step is Favre showing up for camp late this week (perhaps on Friday)? "We'll deal with that once he is reinstated," McCarthy said. "We'll definitely have a plan in order. ... We'll address everything, as far as the details about how Brett Favre fits into our future plans, when he arrives here in Green Bay. ..." As much fun as it's been covering this ongoing drama, resolution would certainly be a relief. That said, we're not convinced this story is nearing an end or that Favre will step on the field again.
