The Facts:
The relationship between Baker and the Jets took another turn today, as the team announced that the veteran has been placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list. Players on the PUP list aren't allowed to practice. By rule, they can't practice until they pass the physical.

The Jets can activate Baker at any time, and Daily News staffer Rich Cimini advised readers it wouldn't be a shock if that happens in a couple of days. This may have been a simple of case of Baker not being able to pass the pre-camp conditioning run. ... Baker hurt his back at the mandatory mini-camp last month and he was fined $3,000 by the team for missing an injury-treatment session. At the time, it was speculated that Baker -- then furious with his contract situation -- may have feigned the injury to anger the Jets. But Baker reported to camp Sunday -- the reporting date for injured players and quarterbacks. Practices don't begin until Thursday.
