HC Marvin Lewis said the reason Johnson didn't practice Thursday is because of an undisclosed ailment. Johnson's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, confirmed Thursday that it is an injured ankle that is prohibiting his client from practicing.

At the Pro Bowl back in February, Johnson said he had planned to get a minor procedure on his ankle during the offseason involving arthroscopic surgery. Rosenhaus confirmed it's the same issue, but doesn't know how severe it is. Johnson was sidelined for two weeks a couple of springs after having an ankle scope. The club has talked to him about another procedure, but no scope looked imminent Thursday. ... Asked if it was a coincidence that a guy that has demanded a trade and griped about being in Cincinnati showed up claiming he couldn't practice, Lewis said, "It's not a big deal." Stand by; we'll be watching if/when that changes.
