League sources indicate the Saints' pursuit of Shockey did not end when a draft-day deal between the clubs could not be reached. Saints HC Sean Payton believes Shockey is a perfect fit for the Saints' offense, and he still desperately wants the player to be wearing a black-and-gold uniform this season. Don't be surprised if the trade is finalized in the coming weeks.

For those who haven't been following along, the Saints made an effort to land Shockey but their initial offer fell short. Shockey has reportedly informed the Giants of his unhappiness, and apparently his preference to play elsewhere. Still, the Giants' failure to address the position in last weekend's draft might suggest the direction the'll ultimately take on this one.
