The Dolphins were said to be interested in re-signing Chatman, but the free-agent running back soon could slip away to a division rival. Chatman is scheduled to visit the Jets on Wednesday. "It’s just a case where it’s been a busy offseason for the Dolphins," Chatman’s agent, Brett Tessler, said. "Both parties left the door open for Jesse to return, but as of now he’s free to pursue whatever other opportunities may be out there."

The Jets are looking for a backup to Thomas Jones, and Chatman last season showed he can carry a load when called upon. Chatman played 14 games, starting six after Ronnie Brown suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 7. Chatman, hobbled by an ankle injury late in the season, finished with 515 yards (a 4.0 average) and one touchdown. He also caught 27 passes for 161 yards.
