The Facts:
As noted by the Sporting News, Drew Brees is the incumbent, but rookie Philip Rivers is the favorite of management and the coaching staff. Rivers has size, a quick release and a sharp mind. If all things are equal, the staff will go with Rivers. But he needs to sign and get into camp on time. If Rivers is out for an extended period, he'll have a tough time unseating Brees before the opener.

Diehards Line:
Rob Zarzycki's View:
Right now Philip Rivers looks to be the only rookie QB enter the 2004 season as a starter. Unfortunately, Fox Sports nails it on the head when saying, "If Rivers is out for an extended period, he'll have a tough time unseating Brees before the opener." As of now, I give Rivers a 60/40 chance of entering camp on time and becoming the starter by Week 1.
