Doug Gabriel On The Rise
(7/13 7:4 PT)

The Facts:
The Sporting News advised readers to keep an eye on second-year receiver Doug Gabriel. He was impressive in the offseason, and veterans Tim Brown and Jerry Rice are not assured of starting spots. Gabriel is similar to fellow wideout Jerry Porter in that he is big, fast and strong. Unlike Rice and Brown, Gabriel can get open downfield and break long runs.  Reported by The Sporting News

Diehards Line:

Rob Zarzycki's View:
Don't believe for a second that Jerry Rice won't start. This future hall of famer has earned a lifetime supply of starts no matter how old he gets. Tim Brown, on the contrary, is vulnerable to a benching. Nevertheless, if Doug Gabriel does pry his way into the No. 3 WR role he still won't be much of a fantasy force with both Jerrys -- Rice and Porter -- looking to get most of the passing action.
