Vincent Jackson Appears Unlikely to Get Franchise Tag
(2/21 6:10 PT)

The Facts:
Per Michael Gehlken of NBC San Diego, Chargers' general manager A.J. Smith has grown "extremely uncomfortable" with the guaranteed $13.68 million dollars it would take to keep Jackson around for another year. Reported by FootballDiehards.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Because Jackson was franchised in 2011, he must earn 120 percent of last year's salary ($11.4 million) to be retained under the franchise tag once again. That high cost combined with a roster that needs help at a few key positions may dictate that the Chargers pass on Jackson and let him become an unrestricted free agent. If Jackson walks, he's likely to be the premier player in a loaded free-agent wide receiver class this year. That abundance of talent comes at a good time for the Chargers who will need to replenish out wide at a more cap-friendly number should Jackson take his skills elsewhere.
