In a comment that many 49ers fans will greet with an overwhelming sense of relief, G.M. Trent Baalke said during Tuesday’s edition of ProFootballTalk Live that the team’s quarterback of the future isn’t a member of the team at the present time. “Is the QB of the future on this roster?” Baalke said. “I think it’s obvious that he isn’t at this point.”

Baalke said that the team will address the quarterback position either through the draft, the trade market, or free agency. While there are issues to work through, PFT's Mike Florio suggests that Either way, Alex Smith, David Carr and Troy Smith (Nate Davis signed with Seattle on Tuesday) should start thinking about their own futures in a city other than San Francisco.
