According to the Union-Tribune, it is known that Rivera has had people put out feelers in an effort to assemble a staff as he closes in on first head coaching position. The Panthers were the ninth team with which Rivera has interviewed for a top job since 2006. He has been the Chargers' DC since midway through the 2008 season. He served in the same capacity with the Bears from 2004-06. Rivera, who turned 49 on Friday, is one of four defensive coordinators the Panthers interviewed last week and the only one to have a second interview.
