With the regular season just days away, the Cowboys and Austin’s agent, David Dunn , came to the agreement Thursday on a six-year contract extension. Austin is now signed through 2016.

According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the new deal could be worth as much as $57 million. The contract is a result of his 2009 season in which he caught 81 passes for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns in just nine starts. With Roy Williams out with a rib injury, Austin caught 10 passes for a team-record 250 yards and two touchdowns, including a 60-yard game winner in overtime. Austin was scheduled to make $3.168 million this season off of a restricted free agent tender.
