As Star beat writer Adam Teicher notes, that was before the emergence of Jamaal Charles and before injuries prematurely ended his last two seasons. The Chiefs have Charles and Thomas Jones, making Smith expendable. Jackie Battle and Kestahn Moore are also competing for playing time. ... Meanwhile, the most noteworthy of the other cuts was QB Matt Gutierrez. He was passed during off-season practice on the depth chart by Tyler Palko. His departure leaves the Chiefs with only three quarterbacks: Matt Cassel, Brodie Croyle and Palko.
