The Bucs announced Monday that Griese, left on the outside looking in at what seems to be a three-way battle for the Bucs' starting job, has been released.

The move comes as no real surprise. ... The team now has rookie Josh Freeman and veterans Luke McCown and Byron Leftwich, along with second-year pro Josh Johnson at the position. The initial belief in Tampa had Leftwich and McCown battling for the starting job, but as noted in
a recent Fantasy Notebook, Freeman's move into the starting mix could be accelerated if he performs well early in camp.
