Vinatieri has had surgery on his right hip but is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season. The Colts announced the surgery on Friday, the first day of their mandatory mini-camp.

The team’s statement said Vinatieri had pain in the hip for more than a year. It flared up recently, prompting the surgery. HC Jim Caldwell said he was uncertain whether Vinatieri would be able to kick when training camp opens in August, but that Vinatieri should be ready for the regular season. We'll go ahead and take him at his word -- but we'll also continue to monitor Vinatieri's progress.
