Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News reports the 49ers have given Bruce an informal deadline of April 1 to decide whether to return for his 16th season.

Until then, they're willing to wait. Bruce, 36, was not at the 49ers' voluntary mini-camp, which opened Friday. "When you've done the things that he's done, you just kind of sit back and weigh your options and try to figure it out," HC Mike Singletary said. "He's still working out. ... But he's just making sure he's fully committed when he comes back."
