Russell might need ankle surgery. Owner Al Davis said there are "chips" in his ankle that might need to be removed. Russell is already back in California.

Let's hope the team doesn't wait too long if surgery is indeed necessary. As Pro Football Weekly recently suggested, the Raiders haven’t done much to help Russell recently, after putting him through the instability of having three different play-callers last season alone. They did do Russell a favor by hiring Paul Hackett as QB coach, but the former first-round pick clearly doesn't need any further setbacks in terms of practice time. Stay tuned.
