Speaking to Favre Friday night from Mississippi, I got the distinct impression that he was going to retire from football, this time for good. ... I reported today on NBC Sports that Favre told me he informed Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum that "it may be time to look in a different direction' at the QB position when they spoke Monday.  Reported by SI.com

The above, written by SI.com's Peter King, carried the following disclaimer: "They don't sell insurance for this kind of thing, obviously, as his flip-flopping of the last three years shows. ..." Still, King believes the Jets' disappointing finish (the team lost four of their last five with Favre playing poorly) and subsequent firing of HC Eric Mangini weighed heavily on Favre.
