Once again, the Bengals will not allow Palmer and his inflamed right elbow to play this week. Palmer will be on Cincinnati’s sideline, the No. 3 quarterback, as he has been since Oct. 12. Ryan Fitzpatrick will make another start in Palmer's absence.

After Thursday night’s game in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati will have five games remaining — Baltimore, at Indianapolis, Washington, at Cleveland, Kansas City. As NFL Network insider Adam Schefter wonders, what would be the point of allowing Palmer, Cincinnati’s franchise, to play in any of those games? The Bengals keep clinging to hope that Palmer might be able to play again this season. But it is looking more and more doubtful.
