It's Official: Bears Name Kyle Orton Their Starter
(8/18 1:11 PT)

The Facts:
The suspense about who will line up under center in the season opener Sept. 7 in Indianapolis ended Monday when HC Lovie Smith anointed Orton the Bears' starting quarterback. In earning the job, Orton outdueled Rex Grossman in a competition that began in the offseason. Reported by ChicagoBears.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
According to the team's official web site, the decision was based on Orton's body of work dating back to his performance late last year. Entering training camp on equal footing, Orton slightly outperformed Grossman in two pre-season games, compiling a better completion percentage (63.2-56.5), yards per attempt average (5.21-5.13) and passer rating (76.4-66.9) while connecting on 12 of 19 passes for 99 yards. Grossman has completed 13 of 23 passes for 118 yards. Still, starting against the Chiefs and coming in off the bench versus the Seahawks, Orton won the competition without directing the offense to a touchdown or completing a pass of more than 17 yards. His five preseason possessions resulted in two field goals and three punts. ... Let's hope those scoring lines change now that he's officially No. 1.
