Though no one will say it publicly, Post staffer Mark Cannizzaro advised readers on Saturday it's clear the Jets are hoping Clemens wins their starting QB job and justifies the team drafting him in the second round three years ago.

The Jets head into camp with an open competition between Clemens and Chad Pennington. As for Brett Favre, both Cannizzaro and New York Daily News insider Gary Myers suggest the Jets wouldn't be among those pursuing the veteran (who in case you haven't heard, has requested his unconditional release from the Packers). Favre came much closer to being a Jet in 1991 than he will in 2008. But Myers advises readers Jets officials "have virtually ruled out pursuing Favre" if the Packers trade or release him.
