The Redskins are waiting for Hackett to decide on their contract offer before pursuing other options at the position, a league source said yesterday, and the team still is in contact with the agent for WR Reche Caldwell.

As noted in a previous item, the Redskins offered Hackett a contract during his two-day visit this week, hoping he would immediately sign with them. But Hackett continued his free agent tour instead. After leaving Washington on Thursday, Hackett was scheduled to meet with the Bucs and Panthers. The Redskins would like to acquire a dependable, big veteran wideout and Hackett (6-2 and 208 pounds) could fill that role. ... The team is also interested in re-signing Caldwell, who made timely catches down the stretch while contributing to the Redskins' late-season run to a playoff berth.
