Whether his trip Wednesday and Thursday to the Falcons will be enough to lure him to the state in which he spent his formative years remains to be seen. But it will be the first free-agent visit for Elam, whose contract talks with Denver are at a standstill.

Elam grew up in Snellville, Ga. and the Falcons have an obvious need at the position. The team employed 47-year-old Morten Andersen most of last year. Elam is younger comparatively at 38 and still demonstrates solid leg strength along with clutch tendencies, with a career-best four game-winning kicks last season. He made 27 of 31 attempts in 2007 and has an ongoing streak of 35 straight field goals inside 40 yards.
