The Texans reached agreement today on a new contract with wide receiver and kick returner Davis.

According to Chronicle staffer John McClain, Davis' agent Kennard McGuire and Texans GM Rick Smith spent the last two days in intense talks before reaching an agreement that keeps Davis from becoming an unrestricted free agent. As Pro Football Weekly recently noted, Davis could be overtaken as the club’s No. 3 receiver by Jacoby Jones, but the Texans were still open to paying Davis like a No. 3 receiver because of his value as both a receiver and a kickoff returner.
