Jahvid Best Still Not Fully Cleared
(4/14 2:30 PT)

The Facts:
After missing the final 10 games last year with post-concussion symptoms, Best is nearing a return to the field. Best will be in Detroit to take part in the start of off-season workouts Monday. He still hasn’t been fully cleared by team doctors, but has been working out on his own since December. Reported by the Detroit Free Press

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Best was one of the Lions’ most dynamic weapons through the first six games last year. Their offense became decidedly one-dimensional when he was lost for the season when he suffered a concussion Oct. 16 in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He also suffered a concussion in the preseason and has a history of head injuries from college. Lions GM Martin Mayhew said last month that Best was “doing great” in his recovery and the team has “pretty big plans” for him this year. “We’re just waiting on final clearance with Jahvid,” Mayhew said. “There’s no need to rush to judgment on Jahvid’s situation. So we’re very optimistic. He’s doing very well. He feels great. He’s training right now and we’re looking forward to him being cleared. ...” While the Lions remain optimistic, the fact that he isn't cleared for contact six months after the fact is worth noting. We'll continue to follow up as needed, but Best's risk vs. reward ratio continues to weigh much more heavily on toward the former.
