A league source confirms that the Raiders are planning to put the franchise tag on strong safety Tyvone Branch. The franchise number for safeties is close to $7 million a season, and the move also means that Oakland won’t be using the tag on Bush.

That means Bush will now get his much-anticipated chance to test the open market and try and get a job as No. 1 back somewhere else. He replaced an injured Darren McFadden as the starter last year and finished with 740 rush yards, 307 receiving yards and five touchdowns in nine starts. The Chargers have been mentioned as a possible suitor, but look for Bush to be more interested in an opportunity to take over a featured role (rather than work in another timeshare, as he would with Ryan Mathews in San Diego). ...
