The Jets confirmed Monday during their end-of-year news conference that the Jaguars had asked permission to interview Schottenheimer, but Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum expressed optimism that Schottenheimer would be back in New York for a seventh season. HC Rex Ryan, however, called it a 50-50 chance and said he believes Schottenheimer will be a head coach at some point in his career. Two sources with knowledge of the situation told NFL Network's Albert Breer on Thursday that the Jaguars have contacted Bengals OC Jay Gruden about their vacancy. The Jags also have been linked to Panthers OC Rob Chudzinski and Falcons OC Mike Mularkey.
