Matt Cassel's Injury Will Require Surgery
(11/14 2:17 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on the previous item. ... Cassel’s right hand injury, suffered late in Sunday’s loss to Denver, is far more serious than initially thought and could end his season. HC Todd Haley said the injury is “significant” and will require surgery. Reported by the Kansas City Star

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
As for the rest of the season? “That’s a possibility,” HC Todd Haley said Monday when asked if Cassel could be done for the year. “I wouldn’t say it’s an absolute.” For now, Cassel will not be placed on the injured-reserve list, which would officially end his season. With Cassel out, backup Tyler Palko, who has seen limited action in his two years with the Chiefs, will start Monday night’s game at New England and remain the starter for the foreseeable future. “We feel good about Tyler, or he wouldn’t be here and he wouldn’t be our number two,” Haley said. Palko was five-for-six on the Chiefs’ final drive on Sunday, leading them to a field goal and shot at getting back into the game via an ensuing onside kick.
