The Facts:
Following up on the ongoing saga. ... Brees, who has been at the front lines of the media phase, has offered from time to time some potentially inflammatory comments. But Brees now recognizes progress finally is being made -- and he wants to see more of it. “I am the eternal optimist,” Brees recently said. “I know that there has been progress made in regards to the discussions that have been taking place both last week and this week in Chicago and New York respectively. Those discussions are ongoing."

Brees, speaking on WWL radio in New Orleans (via SportsRadioInterviews.com), added: "There’s a lot of issues to get through, but I think that’s something that both sides really want, certainly us as players to not miss anytime. We want to get to training camp on time and we want to play games on time. ...” Not surprisingly, Brees couldn't say anything positive without reminding us the owners are the ones responsible for the current situation. Despite the still contentious public posturing, all indications are at least some progress is being made. How soon? While we've been reluctant to make predictions (mostly because it's purely guesswork at this point), PFT's Mike Florio believes an agreement could come at some point between late June and the middle of July. That doesn't seem unrealistic.
