The Facts:
After noting Benson's negative comments about Carson Palmer to Sirius NFL Radio (see
previous item), most observers missed the RB's comments about his own future. Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer listened to the tape of the entire interview and notes Benson's answer about whether he deserves big free agent money this year. "I think I’m deserving," he said. "I just hope a couple teams feel the same way. It would be nice if it would be the Bengals."

Benson went on to note the team drafted a quarterback in the second round and have young receivers, suggesting "They’re going to need a horse in there. ...” Benson rushed for 1,111 yards and seven touchdowns last season and is one of the top free agent running backs now that his two-year, $7 million contract has expired. But Benson is going on 29, and the Redzone believes it's worth wondering if he's a player in decline after a sub-par 2010 season that also saw him receive a career-high 321 carries. New OC Jay Gruden wants Benson for his offense but if his salary demands are as high as expected, it might be an issue.
